Heating and cooling

With Katherm HK trench technology, energy-efficient and noise-optimized heating and cooling is possible at all system temperatures, including low-temperature and heat pump operation. They are suitable for buildings of all kinds in which increased cooling load occurs due to internal loads and solar radiation through large glazed façades.

Primary air supply

With Katherm HK, you can reliably bring primary air into the building. Depending on the unit size, various options are available for this purpose – from supply air ducts to permanently integrated primary air connections with air spigots. Intake via the raised floor is also possible where structural conditions permit.

Countless variants

There is a choice of numerous trench widths as well as trench heights depending on width. Depending on on-site requirements, various product-specific lengths are available for all performance requirements in the 2- and/or 4-pipe system.

Customized production

Custom-made products are possible for any building architecture with individual geometries. This applies to the trench and the grille. Available examples include:

Determine indoor air quality yourself

Is the system centrally set to "cooling"? With the Katherm HK E the room can be additionally heated if required. This is made possible by the integrated electric heating element, which can be switched on individually and adjusted continuously. This allows the user to flexibly adjust the temperature and air output and set their personal comfort climate.

The electric heating element and the EC fans used in Katherm HK E are in output and fan speed continuously controllable.

Technical features

Use with high cooling loads

  • For rooms with high cooling load and special requirements for comfort
  • The units are generally arranged directly on the façade without any greater distance.

Comfort in cooling mode

  • Low air outlet velocities and an optimized air outlet ensure optimum comfort in cooling mode.
  • Cooled air rising along the façade forms an air roll and flows into the room without drafts.
  • Provides the best possible shielding of the glazed façade.

Optimized discharge airflow

  • Short-circuit-optimized air outlet flow for uniform temperature distribution
  • Efficient air routing: Greater rise height at the façade, better air mixing and better penetration into the room
  • Flow-optimized roll-up and linear grilles
  • More efficient performance and better indoor air quality compared to conventional systems

Heating-side and cooling-side connection

  • Depending on the unit size, the heat exchanger has a female threaded connection with anti-torsion device.
  • Also serves as splash protection during venting.
  • Large selection of presettable on/off valve kits and differential-pressure-independent valve kits for various water flow rates
  • All variants can be factory-prepared.
  • On site, only a press fitting connection at the copper end piece of the corrugated pipe is required.

2-pipe system as a 4-pipe solution

  • Via an electric heating element in Katherm HK E, the comfort of a 4-pipe system is utilized.
  • Only one 2-pipe system is installed.
  • Provides considerable savings in pipework routing within the floors.
  • Conserves raw materials and reduces installation and commissioning costs.
  • By reducing CO₂ emissions along the value chain, the use of Katherm HK E has a positive effect on the building life cycle assessment rating.

Removal of the tangential fan

  • Innovative fastening system of the high-efficiency EC tangential fans used
  • Can be easily removed without tools for cleaning and Maintenance.

Simple condensate management

Every Katherm HK is equipped with a condensate tray that collects the condensate generated in cooling mode and safely drains it from the trench. Condensate removal is achieved by a natural gradient or optionally by a supplied or factory-mounted condensate pump.

The individual components of the condensate pump are significantly reduced, depending on the unit size of the Katherm HK. Float switch and condensate motor are combined here in one compact housing. It is supplied with a newly designed connecting elbow to the condensate tray. This saves installation time and facilitates the installation of wastewater and electrics

 

Minimum noise through acoustic decoupling

Katherm HK trench technology is used in acoustically sensitive rooms because the smooth-running tangential fans are mounted with acoustic decoupling.

For Maintenance purposes, the fan can be removed or inserted without tools.

Protection during installation and construction

Our Katherm trench technology products are carefully packed in cardboard packaging for transport. The grille edge trim profiles are protected against damage by green plastic profiles. A sustainable paper cover prevents dust and dirt from entering.

As the units are often installed in the building at an early construction stage, the grille can be replaced at the factory with a wooden installation cover for their protection for an additional charge. The grilles are then supplied separately packed.

Control options

KaControl MC

The Katherm HK offers bidirectional communication for up to 10 units within one group/room via CAN bus with the integrated KaControl MC control. With KaControl MC, the unit can be easily integrated into common building management systems such as Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, BACnet/IP and KNX-TP

Electromechanical control

This variant is ideal for simple applications. All integrated actuators are factory-wired to a terminal and can be connected to our electromechanical accessories such as thermostats or external controllers.

Hygiene-compliant

Thanks to its sophisticated design, thorough cleaning in accordance with the requirements of the hygiene guideline is easily possible. The condensate tray that can be pulled out toward the room enables complete cleaning of the tray. 

Life cycle assessment data (EPDs)

We assess the environmental impact of our products across their entire life cycle („cradle to cradle“) and publish the results transparently in our Environmental Product Declarations (EPD). These EPDs can be easily integrated into leading building certification systems such as DGNB, BREEAM or LEED and are available in the download section.

Hybrid concept

Central ventilation – decentralized temperature control: The combination of central ventilation via an AHU unit and decentralized air conditioning with pumped hot water and chilled water enables efficient heating and cooling.
