EN 16798‑1 replaces the earlier EN 15251 and is the current basis for assessing indoor air quality. It determines the outdoor air demand using the additive method: the person-related component covers CO₂ and bioeffluents from occupants, while the building-related component covers emissions from the building structure and furnishings. Only the sum of both components determines the outdoor air demand and enables a more differentiated assessment than the sole use of general guideline values.
